Nuclear potential seems like it is big in Argentina.

Atucha II, Argentina’s largest nuclear reactor (745 MW), returned to full 100% operation yesterday following 7 years of upgrades according to state operator Nucleoeléctrica Argentina.

This milestone strengthens Argentina’s nuclear sector, which currently supplies around 7% of the country’s electricitythrough three reactors. The restart comes amid a global reassessment of nuclear energy as a source of reliable baseload power, particularly as electricity demand rises and countries pursue decarbonization goals.

The development also reflects broader international trends. Notably, Germany’s chancellor has acknowledged that the country’s 2023 nuclear phase-out was a “strategic mistake,” contributing to energy shortages and higher costs—underscoring the challenges of transitioning energy systems without firm, dispatchable generation.
