Argentina records negative foreign investment for the first time in over two decades

If foreign companies are leaving that can't be a good sign. I was just in the mall and it doesn't seem like many are buying much. The mall did have traffic but I did not see many people with shopping bags and it's a few days before Christmas. I walked into a store to get my girlfriend a shirt. 320,000 pesos for a shirt at a store in Alto Palermo. Over $208 dollars! Same thing might cost $50 bucks in the US.

I use this face soap that is about $25 in the US. Here it is an astronomical price of 93,407 pesos. I couldn't believe it. So much for import taxes getting reduced.

Some prices of items is outrageous. I bought some sunscreen the other day and couldn't believe the price.

the usa has alot of discount clothing stores. if your not chasing famous brands in their first season you will find great deals. i am wearing a nice shirt… cost 15.00

i was in the wholesale clothing business. we. had 3 seasons. at the end of the season we would take back what didn’t sell and sell it to the jobbers market often at a dollar apiece.

What are the margins on clothing @jbeas176? I don't understand how the local stores charge so much? I rarely see people buying them in many stores. I often joke they are in some kind of money laundering business.

wholesale is 50 % of retail. people are more fashion concess in the usa. the jobber sells to a middleman then he sell it to the new retailer. there really nice clothes

my jeans at that time say 1978 we 70.00 retail
My guess is most of these Argentine clothing manufacturers will go out of business. I talked to one woman that owned a manufacturing plant and they closed down this month. How are they going to compete with China? I see more Shein stores opening up and quality is not bad. Very affordable. Similar local stuff is many times more.

And the ones that are sticking around are cutting capacity.

If they can change the labor and tax laws more coming.

Until the funds actually land here I would say it's all smoke and mirrors. There have been a lot of supposed investments that never made it to Argentina including from scammer Sam Altman.
