Who cares if foreigners and expats get pissed. Argentina is going to be strong now. Now I think I start to change my mind about Milei. Inflation go down. My salary still low but it very positive if foreigner people that break the law and cheat on taxes of my beloved Argentina get deported. I will love to see more foreigners that break our laws and rules get deported. Will be wonderful to see that.

Agree it is bad news. I talked to Lorena today and it is not looking good. They are preparing their clients for the worst. She said that she has many angry and frustrated clients right now. They are eager to find out more news.

Guidelines are definitely going to toughen but what do you think @Darksider415 ? Will you have to start all over with your 2 years? I wonder how it will change things? I wonder if any exceptions. It doesn't matter for me as I don't care if I get citizenship. I just have another renewal and I can qualify for permanent residency. I hope to retire next year and move to BA full time. I don't necessarily need Citizenship. Although once I move down I won't have a problem staying 2 years if I need to.

yeah, as it is written like that it sounds very stupid. i'm interested to read the actual legal wording to see what will be allowed. it would be a deal-breaker for many people (for instance, my girlfriend with her Rentista residency had to fly back for a funeral, and at the same time cleaned her rental property and moved-in new tenants to pay for her residency needs in Argentina...that obviously shouldn't disqualify someone)

But based on what people are reporting it sounds like that would be exactly the type of thing that disqualifies her. I can't believe they won't include some minimal amount of time to leave and come back for vacation and trips. That would be impossible bar to not leave Argentina. Milei is becoming more Trump than Trump!

Past actions taken by individuals with permanent residency are unlikely to be affected. However, looking ahead—and depending on how the decree is ultimately implemented—those holding permanent residency should avoid being outside of Argentina for more than one year.

As for individuals granted temporary residency within the last six months, it would be prudent for them to remain in the country until they have completed at least six consecutive months of physical presence, at least under the current circumstances.

If someone in that category has already left Argentina and returned, but can still reach a total of six months in-country before their renewal date, they may still be in a favorable position—though this remains uncertain until either they or someone else attempts to renew temporary residency under the new guidelines.

What remains unclear is the outcome if a renewal is denied. While it seems unlikely that immigration authorities would detain and deport someone immediately upon denial, it is plausible that the individual would be instructed to leave Argentina by or before the expiration date of their current residency permit.

From the sounds of it, they will not tolerate ANY crime at all by foreigners. And any instance of any wrong doing can immediately get someone deported. They will probably want to make examples out of people. Bullrich probably won' be opposed to having some cases in the press to scare people.

I pay my taxes here, my income is totally en blanco, and it'll be really annoying to have my petition for citizenship denied because I've spent a total of six weeks outside Argentina in the two years since I got permanent residency. We had options about where to go, and we chose Argentina because we were hopeful about where it's going, despite having compelling options in the EU and Brazil and other Mercosur countries.

I'm all-in on Argentina, My family is all-in on Argentina. We're doing things the right way, and I'd like for us to be able to get citizenship so we can have a voice in how this place is run. I want Argentina to grow and improve and become great, and I don't want to see a return of Peronismo, but I'm also a realist in that this will negatively affect me and my family if it's implemented the way people are saying.

Now, that said, if it really does end up being two years without leaving Argentina, I will probably buckle down and do it anyway, but it's not ideal.

Great post. Agree difference between immigrant and expat. I also pay taxes. You will find it is almost impossible to do 100% in white. I will be first to admit that. We try to be as legal as possible but my wife's family owns 4 different companies here and even if they want to it's impossible. Still it goes to my point before in another post that there is doing normal and blatently cheating the government and then trying to sound like an expert on the subject. I'm sorry but no one in Argentina for only 1.5 years can be an expert on anything Argentina.

I admire your desire to want to get Citizenship here. Argentina is a great country and proud to live here and have my wife and kids citizens.

I tend to agree with Avocado's point about being able to stay here forever even not having citizenship. I"m married to an Argentine and my kids were born here. They also have US Citizenship. I never got my passport here and I am just fine. I never felt a need to get a passport here. Different things for different people. Maybe I will but my life doesn't change one way or another not having it.

I could have gotten Citizenship here years ago. I would qualify. Granted I go home to visit my family every year. I can't believe they won't change that. Something is getting lost in translation on the not leaving for 2 years. I don't believe that will be like that. No one would qualify.
I think Avocado makes a good point I have lived here as a permanent resident for over a decade and can live here without being a Citizen. I don't know why an American would worry so much. American passport is one of the strongest in the world. I am very proud to be a US citizen. For as long as I lived here I always consider the US "home".

What a great post. Love your posts. As an immigrant it would be great to read more of your experiences there. Some move down there but then we never hear from them again. That one dude @daveholman moved down saying how great it is and then you never hear from again which tell me that things aren't so great. Also doesn't say much for the guy that he abandoned his wife and kid to escape in BA. What a class act.

Argentina seems like a cool country. I thought many things about BA were overrated. I thought the food was meh. Steaks were ok but didn't live up to reputation to me. I think the average steak at Dallas high end places are much better. And about the same price as high end places there. I spent $100 for myself at Don Julios. Pizza was disgusting! Terrible seafood! Great walking city.

Darn @Avocado you are the last person I thought would change your mind about Milei. He has been terrible for Argentina! And things are getting worse. Things will not end well. Agree with you that if you can't follow the rules and laws in a country then go back home.

I am not sure that one vote will make a difference. After this year Milei is finished. Once his failed experiment fizzles we will see an end to his party. They are very weak as it is. Without Trump and IMF Argentina would be toast.

It is good to hear about immigrants like @Darksider415 working hard and paying taxes. I did not declare 100% when I bought my apartment in Palermo but like others mentioned, my lawyer told me to keep it around 70% and refused to go lower. And then I didn't go online bragging about breaking the law. I remember reading Stratus was a cop before in America. Strange he would come online and post about breaking laws and cheating on taxes.

With how close Milei is with Trump he better hope ARCA doesn't turn him into the IRS too. I heard in the USA they put people in jail for cheating taxes. Talk about double whammy!

Yes very tough the past year. Dollar costs have gone up tremendous for most people. I live a frugal life and my costs have gone up in dollars. I don't live in CABA. Far from it where it is not very expensive. I can only imagine what some of you in CABA are going through. I have friends that tell me it is painful. That is why I don't enjoy reading posts calling people commies or saying how no inflation.

Just about all of my friends are affected because costs across the board have gone up. But like you mentioned Darksider it is the price to pay for decades of bad decisions and bad governance. I hope there is a long term term around. The jury is still out on that one. Argentina still can't manage to build reserves even during harvest season.

• Anyone with a criminal conviction who tries to enter Argentina will be denied entry.
• Those caught in the act crossing unauthorized entry points will be immediately expelled.
• Any person who provides false information upon entry will be expelled.
• All foreign nationals convicted of any crime will be deported.
• The time frame for appealing a deportation will be shortened.
• Illegal immigrants and temporary or transitory residents will be required to pay for healthcare services.
• Anyone entering Argentina must present proof of health insurance.
• Universities will be authorized to charge for educational services if they choose to do so.
• Requirements for obtaining permanent residency and citizenship will become stricter; citizenship will only be granted to those who have continuously resided in Argentina for two years without leaving the country.
• Individuals who remain in the country irregularly will not be eligible for citizenship.

It's getting difficult. I don't care if you're living here as expat, immigrant or local. Probably why Avocado finally took enough is they are frustrated. Some of my friends are thinking about having to leave a country they love and where all their family is from to move. That causes stress and aggravation. Then you have someone that is a guest in their country screaming how everyone is cheating taxes. It can be volatile which we are seeing now.

Total BS of @StatusNomadicus to say nl USD inflation. Every time I go to the bakery ore restaurant it goes up. My electricity bill, my monthly expenses. The laundromat! Has someone seen what they are charging now! When you badger people and try to tell them their costs aren't going up even though they are you will get blowback.

Pretty much the only thing that hasn't gone up in both is my rent, but that's only because the contract is fixed in USD.

My landlord proposed a 34% increase in July and I’m honestly going to take it because it’s still on the low end in my neighborhood for a 3 bed 2 bath.

So, everything is going up in dollars. 💸
