Anyone know why the suicide rate in Uruguay is so high?

Uruguay has one of the oldest populations in Latin America. I actually know 2 people that had relatives that committed suicide in Uruguay. Both of them had wives that died and they were just lonely without them and one was 2 years and the other 3.5 years after the wife died.

Uruguay doesn't seem to have as many mental health professionals like BA or other cities. It's also easier to get guns there which makes it easier.

Most of the suicides there are males. Males there are stubborn and refuse to seek psychological help. They also have a reluctance to ask family members for help compared to other countries in Latin America.

It's also relatively expensive so I'd guess many have economic problems. There are a lot of boozers in Uruguay. Most of my friends from there love to drink. If you look it up, Uruguay has one of the highest alcohol consumption rates in SA.

I would guess reporting is much more organized there vs. other countries in South America. Things work very well there and organized. I'm guessing that suicide is probably higher in other countries but maybe not reported correctly.
