Anyone else's power going out from the Polar Cold Front? Friends in Quilmes keep having power go out past 2 days?

Is anyone in CABA having power outages? My friend in Quilmes told me she hasn't had power for the past 2 days in the afternoon. She said that with so brutally cold weather (in the 30's) everyone has their heat on. I guess so many places got rid of gas that the split AC units are using heat and she said there is a power outage in the afternoon. I couldn't find any news reports on that. Is anyone else experiencing that? I was curious if other parts of BA are experiencing this?

She sent me these WhatsApp messages.

I wondered about the power grid there. When I went in the hot summer seasons the power went out a few times. Usually it came on within a few hours but I am wondering since I read some posts where electric cars are being marketed and I wondered how they will handle electric cars if power goes out all the time now?

I have a Tesla and I can't imagine finding a place to charge it because most of the apartments are apartment buildings and I can't imagine they would even allow you to install a fast charger there.

I also am seeing most of the new apartments being built have NO gas at all. I rented a newish Airbnb and no gas at all and the new apartment I bought has no gas at all. Only electric stoves, AC/heat and electric stove and ovens. Is this common now?

Yes, I have an employee in Quilmes and she said the same thing the power was going out the past few days.

I doubt that Argentina around CABA will ever have much of a big electric vehicle presence for the reasons you mentioned. I've been a VERY big proponent of EV's. I was one of the first in the world to have a Tesla Model S. (They had a LOT of problems when they first came out). But I knew they would figure things out. I was one of the first in the world to have the Tesla Model X. I have the Tesla Model Y. I just bought a new Rivian R1S SUV a few months ago and love it. We ONLY have EV's in our house but this could never happen in Buenos Aires.

Many new buildings don't use gas at all. In the past several pozos I bought, they only use electricity.

Good riddance to no gas. Even though it's cheap it is a royal pain when there are gas issues if you live in an old building. We had no gas in our building for 8 months! We had to switch everything to electric. Took Metrogas 8 MONTHS to fix our gas. I remember many years ago there was an explosion in a building in BA from the gas leak. After that they are kind of strict.

It was a massive outage that mainly affected the southern area. A friend of mine in Lomas de Zamora was without power for 17 hours. They say it’s due to excessive energy consumption caused by the polar cold front. I honestly think this should be a top priority, there’s no way to get through this colder-than-usual winter without proper heating.
More investment and less political drama from the government would be welcome. It’s time they organize their priorities.

Not just electricity, today in Mar del Plata there was no gas in almost the entire city. This is the worst cold wave in history.

A good lesson to show you just how fragile Argentina is. They are a few events from mass riots in the street. Wonder how things will go before October elections. That is a LOT of time for things to go wrong.
