A coffee for $3.50: Argentina is the most expensive country in Latin America

I know I will get hazed for eating McDonald's here but once in a while it is good to remind me of home. So consistently good and reminds me of home. But I don't eat them often. I also love a double quarter pounder with cheese but it is hard to justify here because the same price I can get a good lunch.

Any online discussion of McDonalds turns into a contest of who can hate on it the most lol

"Last time I had McDonald's was a year ago, and I still have food poisoning!"

"Oh yeah? Last time I had McDonald's was 5 years ago, and I still have stomach cramps!"

"OH YEAH? Last time I had McDonald's was 10 years ago ..... and my colon fell out!"

Pretty much as expected. Thanks to these forums, I was prepared for the downsides. Even with those, it's still a beautiful city. The parks, the cafes, everyone out walking their dogs, the architecture downtown...fabulous.
And the weather has been great.
@daveholman did you end up staying in Argentina? It seems like many expats have moved out of BA. Most of my friends have left.

Did you ever get sick there?

From McDonald's? Never. Its the least likely place you will get sick here

I have gotten extremely sick from one of those food by weight places, and also from one of those awful RES butchers that are all over the city like a cancer

That is what I like about McDonald's. It is consistent. Anywhere in the world I go it always tastes the same. Never got sick in a McDonald's anywhere in the world. It's my guilty pleasure that I wouldn't admit to any of my friends.

I rarely go to McDonald's but when I do, I don't tell my family. Sometimes a man's gotta do what a man's gotta do.

I can't believe how expensive Starbucks is here. More than the US! I don't get how coffee here can be the same price as Manhattan?

@Spend Thrift. I agree the focus should be on the economy and to keep his mouth shut at other times.
But I am also getting worried about his real economic plans. And I am asking myself more and more, does he have a plan?
This is what I wonder. How do you see things @GlasgowJohn? Do you think Milei will last long term? Salaries don't seem like they are keeping up for many. Not saying things would be better with Massa but is this plan sustainable for the next 2 years?

A Cappuccino in Rome next to the Colosseum costs around $1.75 USD where in Palermo it's about $4.50 USD.

Because a cappuccino in Rome next to the Colosseum costs around 1.75 USD (approx. 1.6 euros) while in Palermo you can get it starting from $5 to $6 USD.

@Matt G , Milei is still in place beacuse the opposition are in even more of a mess . The opposition has no leader to debate with Milei . Insults do not work - they need someone with an alternative plan to onvince the floating voter.

At th emoment I cannt see anyone good enough to do that.

This is why I don't think this country can ever really turn around. It is a complete mess. At least the cycles seem very predictable. It seems like there are probably some opportunities to make a lot of money taking advantages of these boom and bust cycles. you would think that the other side would be able to come up with some one that could take him on but all of them are clowns. @GlasgowJohn would you vote for him again in 2 years? Is your family member that you said voted for Massa flipped and now support Milei or more of a "I told you so" scenario?

This is what I don't understand. People say things are working with Milei. And I ask what is the proof? OK inflation on some things have gone down. But on the important things they have not. Clothes? Sure. Some electronics. Ok. But getting to work, paying your electricity bills, paying your monthly condo fees, rents, dining out have all gone up. Insurance is up. It is debatable whether salaries are keeping up with inflation. Some say yes and many say no so it probably depends.

Factories are closing and many stores are closing. Consumption is down. I am not convinced things are turning around.

I am a long term resident and not able to vote in presidential elections - But i could vote i dont think I would vote for him.

Mainly because there is no real plane and I feel he is being very economical with the truth as to what will ahppen in the next couple of years.

The 10% inflation target is just one example of a crazy plan that is almost impossible to acheive

Thought you were married to a local? You can't get citizenship for that automatically?

I ask my friends that question if they would vote again for him and many say no. But then when I ask them who they will vote for and they don't know. So I assume that means unless there is a halfway decent candidate they will vote for him again. It seems like it would not be difficult for someone to come up and challenge him but what do I know about politics here.

It doesn't seem like there is really a plan. Reminds me of that boy that sticks his finger in the dam holding the water back. Why lie about 10% figure for 2026 when it is impossible. Then they lie about inflation number and don't use the new formula.

The next 2 years will be interesting.

I don't believe things will turn around. Look at all the signs out there.

The worst thing is he supporters pretend like things working now. Things not working now!

He explain many problems we have but there are many more. I see it in hospital.

Under Milei, the infant mortality rate is rising in Argentina! He cut all the money for public health spending and social programs. And this is the result! It was going down for 20 years and now look. Same thing with economy. Some thing you can't see until later.

The problem I see is that Milei is a Zionist puppet pretending to be a Libertarian. NONE of his policies are really Libertarian in nature.

Married to a local , yes.
But I prefer not to be a citizen - the only advantage of being a citizen against full residency is voting in all elections.
I really dont want toi be an Argentine national - they may send me to fight in the Falklands.

interesting. I hear that over and over again from many that are married to Argentines or they were permanent residents living in BA for a few decades and don't want citizenship. I can see if you are from a weak passport country but I don't see a huge advantage for those from the USA or UK or EU or some other strong passport.
