The municipality of Esteban Echeverría warned in the last few hours about a new increase in the value of the electrical service that specifically impacts the public lines and the Santamarina Municipal Hospital, which received a bill of more than 10 million pesos .

First it was Mayor Fernando Gray who warned about the situation. He did it through social networks, where he shared the ballot that reached the hands of the authorities. “ This month the Santamarina Municipal Hospital received an electricity bill of $10,154,565.67 , which represents an increase of 196.29% compared to the previous month, when the amount to pay was $3,472,172.32,” he noted.

And he added: “This increase is added to the municipal public lighting rate, which went from $71,882,479 in February to $271,114,175 in March. Is this why they turned on the chainsaw? To harm our public health system?”

Along these same lines, and in dialogue with Radio 10 , the municipality's Health Secretary, Gabriel Ive , pointed out today that it is “ a very big blow ” and admitted that “ it becomes very expensive ” to maintain the health service.

“With this policy, there are fewer and fewer people who can access social work, a prepaid one, and they turn to the hospital. There is a great increase in people's attendance at public hospitals, due to care, and due to increases in medicines and other supplies,” he added.

Half brake

The increase warned by Esteban Echeverría of more than 200% in the electricity rate was applied despite the official notification at the national level about the postponement of increases in the value of electricity bills in some of its components.

Last month, the Municipality presented a claim to Edesur and an appeal to the National Electricity Regulatory Entity (ENRE) because spending on public lighting went from $71,882,479 in February to $271,114,175 in March.

At that time, and through a statement, Mayor Gray explained that “the public lighting bill includes the lights located on streets and avenues in the five locations in the district. "The energy consumption of the Santamarina Municipal Hospital, outpatient clinics, health units, municipal building and other departments of the commune are not contemplated."

In addition, the mayor announced that they will go “ to all necessary instances to defend the rights of our municipality and the neighbors.”

"It should be noted that the Municipality is carrying out a plan to reconvert luminaires with the aim of promoting energy savings and environmental care, since, compared to sodium lamps, LED equipment turns on immediately and has greater luminosity and less consumption; They also require less maintenance, have a longer useful life and do not contain contaminants. On the other hand, the power of these devices allows greater reach and better definition for the image of municipal video surveillance cameras and domes located on public roads,” he added in a statement.

Within the framework of the adjustment plan and the search for zero deficit, the national government applied a strong cut in subsidies to public services, which implied a strong increase in the rates that began to be distributed in March, which also contemplates an increase in the actual cost of the services.

In the case of residential users, increases in electricity service will be around 185%, although there is a great dispersion that could take the increases to 300% for some homes depending on their level of consumption.
