70 years after the bombing of Plaza de Mayo

The forces of heaven

On June 16, 1955, a coalition of forces attempted to assassinate Perón and extinguish the popular flame. The result was more than 300 dead and 800 wounded. Hatred and the attempt to establish oblivion. Any resemblance to the present...

On June 16th of 1955, there was a mutiny and attempted coup by elements of the Argentine military calling themselves The Forces of Heaven. The Navy and Air Force carried out a huge bombing raid on the Plaza de Mayo and the Casa Rosada, in an attempt to kill Perón. They failed to kill Perón, but they killed 300 people in the Plaza and wounded 800 more. The failed coup plotters fled to Montevideo. Three months later, in September 1955, there was another successful coup, and Perón was forced into exile in Spain, whence he would not return until 1973. This is just the bare bones of the story.
