Charlotte, the spider-like robot that can build a house in a day

“Charlotte” was the name chosen to christen an arachnid-like robot that could transform the way construction work is done on Earth and on other planets.

Developed by Australian companies Crest Robotics and EarthBuilt Technology , this invention was designed to meet the current challenges of the sector and, at the same time, explore its potential in building habitats on the Moon or Mars .

The machine incorporates a 3D printing system capable of manufacturing sustainable structures of up to 200 square meters in just 24 hours , with minimal energy consumption and without the need to use cement .

The project was presented at the International Astronautical Congress in Sydney, where its creators emphasized that Charlotte can build homes on Earth and, in the future, become a strategic tool for extraterrestrial architecture . "It works at the speed of 100 bricklayers," the developers asserted.

It is projected that it can also build on other planets and even on the Moon.

As Jan Golembiewski , co-founder of EarthBuilt, explained to ABC News , the technology allows the entire supply chain to be reduced to a single high-speed, low-environmental-impact process.

The material Charlotte uses is a mixture of sand, recycled glass, and crushed bricks , which is transformed into a compact paste capable of replacing traditional cement . Using this compound, the robot prints overlapping layers directly onto the ground, forming solid and resistant walls.
