The African Island That Wants to Be Part of Argentina - Is that Possible?

In the past few days, a story as curious as it is utopian has resurfaced: residents of Annobón, an African island off the coast of Equatorial Guinea, have reportedly asked Argentina for help… and even expressed their wish to become part of the country!
A totally out-of-the-box idea that blends geography, politics, and a touch of magical realism.
Is it possible? What do you think?
A sweet fantasy; or a sign of something deeper?

I'm no expert in international law or anything, but from what I understand, Annobón is officially part of Equatorial Guinea, and countries can’t just decide to join another one like switching soccer teams. 😅

There’d have to be a whole legal process, and honestly, I don’t think Guinea Ecuatorial or the international community would just say, “Sure, go be Argentine now.” It’s way more complicated than it sounds.

Yeah, I get the whole idea, but under international law, it’s not that simple.
The UN and international treaties push hard for respecting a country’s territorial integrity. Even when there are talks about self-determination, the focus is usually on finding internal solutions, not joining another country. So yeah… cool idea, but super unlikely.
