Protecting the family home or understanding the legal implications of cohabitation or marriage are some of the most common questions citizens face.
To answer these and other questions, the Buenos Aires City Notaries Association will hold a new "Take Care of Your Own" campaign on Saturday, May 31, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with free advice and free procedures at its Commune 1 office, located at Balcarce 1110, in the heart of the San Telmo neighborhood.

The event, held for the 16th consecutive year, aims to provide the community with legal and notarial tools to facilitate decision-making regarding assets, family, and personal matters. Among the event's highlights, residents will be able to complete, free of charge, the process of assigning their property to the housing protection regime , a legal entity that protects property against debt and which until a few years ago was known as "family property."
In addition to personalized advice, there will be two informative talks open to the public.
The first, at 10:30 a.m., is titled “Decide today what matters tomorrow ,” and will address advance health care directives and rights related to elderly care .
The second talk will be at 11:30 a.m. and will be called "Married, Cohabiting, or Confused?" It will explain the legal implications of marriage and cohabitation , including property regimes, the concept of cohabitation, and the rights of cohabitants regarding housing.

The president of the Notaries Association, Jorge De Bártolo , celebrated the return of the campaign to San Telmo, coinciding with the neighborhood's 220th anniversary , and highlighted the importance of these actions in bringing legal knowledge to the public: "It is essential to be close to the neighbors, helping them prevent and protect their assets, offering the legal tools that best suit their needs." He also emphasized the importance of protecting family homes as a concrete way of providing security and stability to people.
The 2024 edition of "Take Care of Yours" is taking place in a context of an emerging mortgage lending recovery , which could translate into greater interest in learning about the legal steps required to purchase a home. In this regard, notaries will also provide guidance on mortgages and the documentation required to purchase real estate.
