The bill are absolutely shocking now. I read some shocking posts from locals about utility bills. Mine was also very high. Someone posted that they don't think the companies are actually even reading the meters anymore and just making up kwh. How many kwh did you use @jbeas176?
This is not sustainable. Many of my friends also got monster bills in January. Did anything change? I'd think you were just using the same things as usual? January is always hot and humid here.
Mike has been posting about the expensive utility bills. I just don't understand how a local making a peso salary can afford this. They are as expensive or more than the US now.

$400 US dollars? Is that for one month or two months? That is a very big bill. My suegra en Palermo also got a very big bill in January and also February. She is disputing it. We moved out for this reason. This won't end well for Argentina.

Mine was almost $300 dollars. That is more than I paid for a much bigger place in NY. This is one of those things that is crushing people. I wonder what default rates are like on electricity bills. There must be many that are behind on them.

Wowzers. How many KWW was that? How big is your apartment? That is a big bill unless you have a big apartment. We have a fairly big apartment in Recoleta and it was $350 bucks for January. You can see BuysellBA posted about a few of their apartments and what the bill was.
But I did read the electricity went up about 4X or 5X since Milei started so that sounds about right. Here is a $550 USD bill that @BuySellBA said is from a 3 bedroom apartment in Palermo.

Oh my. I have not had any bills like that. I have a small 50 m2 studio apartment. I do use the ac in the summer. My January bill was about 150,000 pesos or around $110 dollars.

Ours was also terrible in January. We were paying no more than $50 before Milei and now they are about $200 dollars in the summer. Much less when we aren't using AC. It is no surprise that the approval ratings are turning. And the government keeps raising them.

I have been posting for a while now I believed that Milei and his administration were raising prices too fast. Subsidies needed to be ended but the amount they have raised in a short amount of time is causing a tsunami. We have said for a while too much too soon and that looks to be playing out today.
The problem is that Milei and Caputo only look at people like a # on a spreadsheet when they are real people. Salaries are too low and people can't absorb these huge increases. You can see the actual numbers and statistics of companies going out of business. Especially SME's.
