Argentine Leader Draws Fire After Cratering of Crypto Coin He Promoted - New York Times

No surprise that they found Milei and his sister guilty.

I don't think too many locals care about scams there. It sounds embedded in their culture.

The Investigating Commission in the Chamber of Deputies presented its final report in more than 200 pages.

In one phrase: "$LIBRA was not an isolated incident"

The conclusions:

They consider it pertinent for Congress to evaluate whether the president engaged in misconduct and define that the facts appear to correspond to a scam.

They confirm economic ties between Hayden Davis, Novelli, Terrones Godoy, and Morales (CNV) in these operations.

Confirmed fund flows on the blockchain with wallet ownership matching a possible contract with the president to monetize his image.

The tweet compromised the presidential investiture, and the president exceeded his public functions by promoting this project.

A repeated modus operandi was detected by the involved technicians (the aforementioned ones) who had some participation from Milei in validating the promoted token.

The president did not explain where he got the contract address from, and it is confirmed that his tweet was what initiated the public distribution of the information; it is noted that the Executive Branch did not collaborate in the investigation.

Karina Milei was responsible for authorizing all entries to the Casa Rosada of the involved parties.

There are sufficient elements to assert that the Public Ethics Law was violated.

A series of officials are listed who are accused of failing in their duties, and a list of judicial officials who are reported for obstructing and not providing collaboration.

You can read the entire thing here:

No surprise that they found Milei and his sister guilty.

It always looked bad for him and his sister but after someone like Cristina stealing so much does anyone in Argentina care?

CoinDesk posted this almost a year ago, all you needed to know about Milei's business dealings...

I remember seeing that. He is doing a lot of good things but that doesn't make up for the not so nice stuff. In the end I don't think that patience will last. It's why I moved to Spain. Looks like the protests are starting back up.

Totally makes sense that Milei wants to allow people to use cash. It will help him and his sister too.

Once hailed now after the continued scandals he is the laughing stock around the world. Everyone is making fun of him. Even Saturday Night Live.

I think this excerpt from CoinDesk says it all...

CRYPTOCURSE SCANDAL: THE CONFIDENTIAL AGREEMENT BETWEEN HAYDEN DAVIS AND JAVIER MILEI

Quick Read

A document signed in January 2025 shows that crypto entrepreneur Hayden Davis agreed to advise Javier Milei on blockchain and artificial intelligence, two weeks before the launch of the $LIBRA token. The text, which Clarín accessed, is confidential and is part of a broader scheme involving payments, crypto wallets, and side deals currently under investigation.

What is the agreement?

It is a document signed on January 29, 2025 between Milei and Hayden Davis, where the businessman offers himself as an advisor on blockchain and artificial intelligence for the Argentine State, under a confidentiality agreement.

When and in what context was it signed

It was signed during a lightning visit by Davis to Buenos Aires, just 15 days before the launch of the token $LIBRA and after a meeting at Casa Rosada.

What the document said

Davis offered “ad honorem” advice on decentralized technologies, smart contracts, digitization of public documents and training of officials, leaving the door open to future negotiations.

The link with the token $LIBRA

Following the meeting, Milei posted a tweet introducing Davis, which boosted the value of $LIBRA. Hours after the launch, the cryptocurrency plummeted, and the President deleted the tweet.

Money movements under scrutiny

Wallets attributed to Davis sent more than one million dollars in crypto to an Argentine intermediary, who then forwarded them to an alleged crypto exchange, according to the prosecution.

Other agreements and parallel payments

The Congressional Committee detected transfers that matched a previous agreement that included monthly payments for crypto and blockchain advice to people close to the project.

Imagine if Cristina or Peronists did this. But because their fearless leader did it, no problem. The problem with Argentina. Majority know the politicians all steal from them.

One of the reasons why I don't think Argentina is a serious country. First the Kirchner's and now this. Some survey the other day said almost 70% of Argentines expect their President and politicians are corrupt and stealing from them. They seem ok with it. Some good X posts on this.

the same exsists in the usa. you just have to read more, follow the money a bouncing ball and alot more countries involved and big companies with lobbyists

Trump did something similar. Hell I think Melania used the same exact person to scam her coin too. You don't hate these politicians enough.

Well now Milei is threatening to shut down Clarin for revealing the contract. Yeah that sounds like a normal working democracy.

He got busted plain and simple. Shutting down a newspaper for finding the contract he signed? You just know that Hayden had a get out of jail free card. I'm not sure if Argentines really care about getting stolen from. Look at Cristina and what they let her get away with.
