Anyone know prices of assisted living centers or nursing homes in Buenos Aires?

Cheap Bastard

My mom is fading fast and getting older. I inquired in the US where she lives and prices are sky high. Does anyone know if Buenos Aires has any assisted living centers that will care for elderly or memory loss centers? It has to be much cheaper in Buenos Aires compared to the United States. I'm getting quotes of between $5,000 and $7,000 per month here in the States.

Sorry to hear about your mom. Sorry to burst your bubble but they aren't much cheaper than the US. I was shocked when I found out how expensive they are here. Probably in the same range of about $5k USD per month.

I inquired for my father and went to visit a facility at Corrientes/Callao. Very upscale and many activities. They are set up like a USA style.

Thanks. The place looks nice but those are US type prices!!! How does a local pay for that? I thought it would be cheaper. That is what it would cost in the US and Medicare would cover much of the cost in the US. I don't imagine Medicare would pay anything to be outside of the USA.

There aren't many of these here in BA and many of them charge that monthly fee mostly for rent and then extra for doctors, therapists, nurses and medicine. One in Nuñez that a friend sends her mother is $8,000 dollars a month. I am not sure how expensive they get in the US but some I heard were $10k a month in Miami.

Here most of the older don't like going to those kind of places. Here seniors are much more independent vs. US. Also at least in BA you don't need to drive. In many cities public transportation is terrible and you have to have a car or difficult to get around. Here you just walk down and you can find most things you need in many neighborhoods.

They are expensive here and the worst thing is because there aren't many there can be long waiting list to get in.

The more boutique memory loss care centers are very expensive in the US. My brother in law's mother near Santa Barbara is in one. He pays about $10,000 a month for his father. But this covers everything. All the meals, medicine, medical care.

Medicare doesn't cover assisted living at all. They won't cover memory care centers or any assisted living type expenses. They covered his father's home health nurses for a few months but it wasn't long. He fell and hit his head and had to go to the hospital and they covered the hospital stay but not his nursing home.

In most of these states if you are very poor or have no assets you probably can get some assistance. It's a good idea to get long term care insurance ahead of time. This can bankrupt you. Fortunately his father had a lot of savings but it is going quickly and he will have gone through all of his savings in a few years and then it will be my sister's husband's problem. He will have to pay for them.

The ones in BA are probably half what some in the US are but they aren't cheap either.

This one looks upscale. They have older ones in Belgrano or Nunez.

The further outside of the city you go the cheaper the prices will be. But it is still going to be about $3500 USD per month out there.

Remember that many here are relatively wealthy. A lot of wealth created in Argentina over the century. Generational wealth. Look around. There is a reason why many restaurants and cafes are packed no matter how bad the economy is. These are the people that can afford these places.

Crazy the prices there are almost as much as they are in the U.S. Not sure how this can be possible. I met a doctor in BA and she told me how little she makes. Same with nurses there and staff. How are they charging these kind of prices when salaries are so low? The math isn't mathing.

More developers will look at this opportunity and build more. The population is aging and demand because young don't want to take care of aging parents. My partner and I go to telos all the time and I am finding more and more of them going out of business. I just asked the last one we frequented why it was closing and he told us that he sold the building and someone was planning an assisted living facility.

It is getting harder and harder to swing at telos as they are disappearing. But we are using Airbnb for it now.
