Anyone know how to handle an overstay near the Chile border?

Hi everyone! Quick question: I’m in Bariloche right now and it looks like I might have to overstay my visa-free period (I’m British) because the weather is making it difficult to cross into Chile on time.
I know there’s a fine for overstaying, but does anyone know if I should pay it at the local immigration office here or directly at the Chilean border when I finally leave Argentina?

Thanks in advance for any info!

You can pay the overstay fine at the border crossing when you leave. They’ll calculate the fine on the spot and you can usually pay with card or pesos. No need to go to the Bariloche migration office unless you prefer to settle it in advance.

I overstayed a few months ago leaving through the same route. They just told me the amount at the border and I paid right there. Took 5 minutes, no drama.

If you want to avoid any hassle, you can go to the local Dirección Nacional de Migraciones office in Bariloche and pay the fine ahead of time. They’ll give you a receipt to show at the border. But honestly, most people just pay at the crossing.

If you think the weather might delay you for several days, you could check in with Migraciones in Bariloche, just so they know. But Argentina is pretty used to overstay fines, it’s a standard process, nothing to worry about.
