Be careful lots of counterfeit 2,000 peso bills floating out there

Perhaps paying close attention to the 2000-peso bills is necessary. I often find that I'm paid mostly with 1000-peso bills; it seems there aren't many 2000-peso bills in circulation. For instance, today I received only 10 bills of 2000 pesos, with the rest all in 1000-peso bills.

Newcomer The medical emergency services in BA are overwhelmed

Yes, it is really chaos, I spent 5 hours waiting and I have a good "prepaga", I can't imagine what it must be like in a public hospital. Now that I have discovered the "Guardia inteligente" system, I will take advantage of it in the future.

Newcomer The medical emergency services in BA are overwhelmed

I had to visit the emergency room at Sanatorio Trinidad de Palermo, and it was chaotic due to the long wait times. There were too many people with dengue symptoms. However, I found out there's a virtual queue system through an app. Essentially, you can schedule an appointment via the app for the...

    Newcomer Question about Villa 31

Hey there! Villa 31 is basically built on land that used to belong to the railway company, now government-owned. That's why it's smack dab near an upscale neighborhood. They've got this urbanization program in the works, but given how massive and dense the villa is, it's gonna be a while before...

Newcomer Why is Argentina experiencing a rise in costs?

Because relative prices are beginning to normalize in USD. It's a pretty complicated topic that economists can explain better, but basically, prices in USD were artificially kept low due to an artificial official exchange rate, which drained the country's Central Bank reserves. Additionally, the...

Newcomer Specific questions about living in Buenos Aires

Outskirts? Probably yes (mine does), but some people treat their pets like babies and will insist they should be kept indoors. And they get upset if you don't. Yes during the day, not so much at night. Same number 2 There's hardly any tango for locals. It's mostly for tourists. No. None at all.

Newcomer Why do people in BA wait for hours and waste so much time to have their eyes scanned?

People in Argentina are desperate, literally selling all their biometric data for a few pesos...it's sad really!

    Newcomer Tipping in BA

Giving a 10% tip is customary for restaurants, cafés, and bars with table service, but nobody will judge you if you leave less. Of course, you can always leave more if you feel inclined to do so.

Newcomer Pros and cons of getting married/having kids in Argentina vs USA?

I'm not sure why moving to the United States for retirement would be a good idea. I'm considering doing the opposite. Argentina is much more affordable to live on U.S. Social Security. Honestly, I don't see many practical benefits in moving to the United States. Your current situation sounds...
