    Newcomer Men, Be Careful!

I have been seeing a lot of reports about this lately. It sounds like your friend was with the wrong type of girls. Many reported cases of this. Frankly no desire to visit Colombia after hearing about so many cases.

New wave of shutdowns and layoffs puts Argentine industry on alert

Corruption always is much deeper than anyone realizes probably in any country. Argentina and the USA aren't any different. If Milei can manage to stay out of corruption scandals he will have a much easier time. Easier said than done.

Milei’s Inflation Miracle Distorted by Obsolete Items in Index

This is a reason why international companies are staying on the sidelines for now. Things don't function like a normal country. There are all sorts of bonds, contracts, treasury bills, fixed-term deposits, loans, etc. that are all adjusted by UVA. The government can't just announce a change...

    Socialism and the Damage Done

I am surprised something sinister hasn't happened already.

    Socialism and the Damage Done

Venezuela was a powerhouse before. I remember visiting 30 years ago. Quite extraordinary. Argentina's industrial sector before Peronism was also spectacular in Latin America. It accounted for 45% of the industrial output of the Top 5 Countries in Latin America in 1930. Peron's first term in...

Newcomer Can You Live Like Royalty in Buenos Aires on $3K a Month?

Key phase is "live like a king". Different people will interpret that differently. Dining out a few times a week will kill your budget in BA. Still you have to think if locals are getting by for less it can be done but Buenos Aires overall is a huge area. Outside of the wealthy pockets of CABA...

New wave of shutdowns and layoffs puts Argentine industry on alert

They only have themselves to blame. They thought they would be protected forever. Most Argentine companies don't invest in upgrading their equipment or technology. They mistakenly assumed the government would protect them forever in an unfair advantage. What I like about Milei is he is...

New wave of shutdowns and layoffs puts Argentine industry on alert

Agree with this. It is one big reason why I think that Milei is safe. Not only is it wise to open up and lower costs on everything for the citizens but he is buying loyalty from the young voters that are getting many items shipped in from China at a fraction of the cost they were paying. This...

Newcomer Does anyone want to define the true meaning of Peronism?

Hopefully Argentina has turned a page on socialism but so much of the country doesn't know any other way. It is going to be an uphill battle.

Are salaries this low for expats or locals???

Salaries aren't enough for many families to make it to the end of the month but at least they can find jobs. Economic cycles in Argentina are cyclical. Things are ok until they are not. Many such cases of people with 2nd or even 3rd jobs to make it though the month.

Delinquency rates on Argentine consumer loans and credit cards shooting up

In doing some research it is clear to see that consumer debt (personal loans, credit cards, et al) is shooting up. When you talk to people they say they are at their limit. I am reading posts about banks starting loans to pay off monthly condo expenses. These are troubling signals. When...

Are salaries this low for expats or locals???

Bravo gentlemen. Good data. This explains why default rates are sky high now in Argentina. I just posted about this. https://www.expatsba.com/threads/delinquency-rates-on-argentine-consumer-loans-and-credit-cards-shooting-up.6752/

What happens if Argentina gets too expensive? What are alternative cities/countries to move to when it's overpriced in Argentina?

Missed this post before. Thanks Craig. I don't remember too many besides Larry saying that Milei would lose. Only that many were not happy and the local election was not looking good with a big loss. People were thinking worst case and very negative but for as many people that hate Milei they...

New wave of shutdowns and layoffs puts Argentine industry on alert

Heard the same thing. @Good Stuff what will your friend do if they shut down the plant? Is it easy for the workers to get a job at another plant? Large layoffs seem like they are already happening and with the amount of imports flooding into Argentina this sounds like it will only get worse...

Unfortunately true. The longer I am here the longer I am seeing that scams are plentiful here. Difficult to find honest people. Seems like everyone wants to charge the gringo tax.
